I Tried Dopamine Dressing at the Gym | Fit Check

Despite PS editor Sarah Wasilak's enthusiasm for moving her body daily, frigid temperatures impact her momentum and motivation, and she knows she isn't alone. There are countless mornings she'd rather stay in bed. So to combat the cold-weather workout slump, she decided to try dopamine dressing at the gym, which for her just meant styling fitness clothes in colors that enhanced her mood and spoke to her personal sense of style. "Dopamine dressing is a theory based on the mood-boosting experiences of wearing certain outfits," fashion psychologist Shakaila Forbes-Bell tells PS. "Mood boosts are often associated with the neurotransmitter dopamine that is released when we feel joy. The theory is based on the broader field of enclothed cognition, suggesting that clothing can shape our emotions, confidence, and even behavior." Subscribe to PS Fit!
