Hey guys! How about a quick 24-hour trip through the history of our planet? That’s right – 4.5 billion years in just 1 day! In real time, the magnetic poles switch places every 250,000 years. Yep, North becomes South, and South is the new North – magnetically, at least! But on this 1-day-old planet, they’re changing 12 times a second! Also, the continents move about 1 inch per year to form a supercontinent. That happens every 400 million years. But today, they’re merging and breaking up every 2 hours! And you know what? Out of an entire 24-hour day, our species only showed up right at the last minute! Other videos you might like:

What happens 2 seconds before the day ends 9:03 #Earth #funhistory #brightside SUMMARY:
– At around 12:00am, the young Earth collides with another planet called Theia. Will you look at that – the moon is born! – At 5:30am, we see the first single-celled organisms starting their life in the ocean. – By 11am, photosynthesizing bacteria have managed to take in enough sun for the past 6 “hours” (aka, a billion years) to fill the atmosphere with the byproduct they let out: oxygen!
– At 11:35, it starts to get chilly. A mere second later, it’s freezing cold, and we have the first snowball on Earth.
– At 7:20pm, we FINALLY have something familiar: sponges!
– It’s 7:55, and the Earth freezes over again. Time for a 2-minute ski sesh before everything melts.
– At around 8:30, we can remove our sun-protecting gear because now the Ozone layer appears. – By 8:45, life is flourishing in the sea. We now have jellyfish swimming around corals. – It’s 9:10pm, the moon is up, the sea creatures are getting a little stir-crazy, so they decide to explore the land. – By 9:45, we have the first 4-legged animals appearing in shallow waters. – By 10:30, everything vanishes, we can hardly see any animals. A mass extinction takes place. Only 5% of the species survive. I’m not sure what caused it. – 10:34, and the moment is here. The dinosaurs are finally making an appearance. The first one was the Nyasasaurus.
– 10:45 marks another mass extinction. Boy, it’s the second one in an hour. But thankfully, our dinosaur friends make it. – It’s 11:03, and we have the first kangaroo ancestors. These are the first animals that carry their babies in a pouch. – By 11:17, dinosaurs are reaching their full size. It’s like Jurassic Park around here! Look at the Argentinosaurus. This guy was the largest animal that ever existed.
– It’s 11:26. A giant asteroid coming right our way! It smashes into the Earth, and dust flies everywhere. A few seconds later, everything clears up, but the dinosaurs have disappeared.
– It’s 11:58pm, and still no signs of people. But the chimpanzees and bonobos appear suddenly!
– It’s 11:59 and 23 seconds, and we FINALLY have full-blown humans over in Africa! A second later, they start migrating all over the world. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

What If We Move the Earth to a New Orbit
Did you know that the Earth's orbit isn’t a circle, but an oval-shaped ellipse? And the length of the day is actually not 24 but 23.93 hours. We, humans, take these facts for granted. But what if one day, we had to move the entire planet to a completely new orbit and change the existing order? Before we figure out if there’s any way to push our planet out of its orbit, let's find out why we might need to do so! The thing is that our doomsday is approaching. Even if the planet doesn't get overheated due to global warming, the sun will finish it off… But don't be scared, it’s not happening tomorrow. Other videos you might like:

Why the sun is our planet's biggest enemy โ๏ธ 0:46
Can we migrate to another planet? 2:29
Is moving the Earth to a new orbit possibleโ 3:33
Possible solutions:
– A mega-strong and long lasso 4:20
– A gigantic light sail 5:22
– Electric thrusters 5:58
What would happen if we could do that 7:49 #future #Earth #brightside SUMMARY:
– The star is getting hotter and hotter as the centuries pass. And one day, about 5 billion years from now, the sun will inevitably turn into a swollen red giant. About 2 billion years later, the sun will swallow the Earth.
– Long before that, in about 1 billion years, the sun will have already grown more than 11% brighter. It’ll make the average temperature on Earth rise to at least 120 degrees F. – Even this increase in temperature will lead to the World Ocean getting dramatically warmer. The water will start to evaporate like it does when you leave a pot of water in the sun. – The hydrogen, which is a crucial building material for all kinds of living cells, will slowly but surely leak into space. – If our descendants want to stay alive, they’ll have to migrate to another planet or maybe even galaxy!
– It’d still take thousands of years to deliver all the Earth's inhabitants to their new home. Also, it’d take unimaginable amounts of fuel – even if people flew no further than to another planet in the Solar System.
– That's why another option will likely come into play: people will have to change the orbit of the planet before the disaster strikes to avoid the tragic outcome! – Scientists have even calculated that to keep leading a comfortable life (or at least survive), people would have to change the orbit of the planet so that it's 9.5% further from the sun than it is now.
– At first, a mega-strong and long lasso may seem to be the simplest solution. – But where can you find a material strong enough to carry the weight of the whole planet? Besides, how can you be sure that this asteroid will take you exactly where you need to get?
– Maybe an effective way out would be moving the planet out of its orbit with the help of a gigantic light sail?
– But once people calculate all the details, they'll find out that the reflective disk of the light sail would have to be more than 19 times bigger than the diameter of the planet! – An electric thruster could become a cool alternative, especially if we talk about ion drives! Come to think of it, this method could work out! And if people managed this unprecedented feat and DID change the orbit of the planet as planned, there’d be some noticeable changes.
– Our planet's orbital speed would drop down from 18.6 to 17.7 miles per second. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

Why No One Should Swap Seats on a Plane
You probably aren’t the only one looking to pull the ol’ switcharoo. Even if just a few passengers do it, they could throw the plane off balance! And since most aircraft are incredibly sensitive to changes in their center of gravity, it can lead to dramatic consequences. During takeoff, pilots must know the distribution of weight on the plane to make exact calculations. If these calculations are off even the slightest, there are chances that the aircraft can crash while leaving the ground. So before nestling in a more comfortable or spacious spot, ask a cabin crew member if you're allowed to do so. Other videos you might like:

– Strange-looking packages 7:40
– What about the safest sea? 7:58 #planes #safety #brightside SUMMARY:
– If the calculations are off even the slightest, there are chances that the aircraft can crash while leaving the ground. – By the way, if the airport staff load baggage incorrectly, for example, in the rear compartment instead of the front one, it can also mess with the plane's balance. – Always secure your tray table as soon as the plane starts moving on the tarmac, and never lower it during takeoff and landing.
– Like a lowered tray table, a reclined seat can seriously slow down an evacuation since it’ll block the person sitting behind you.
– If you’re on a larger aircraft, you have higher chances of surviving a possible accident. – Remember that sitting near an emergency exit means not only more leg room but also more responsibility. That's why only able-bodied adults can occupy such seats.
– Follow cabin crew instructions to open window shades during takeoff and landing. This way, flight attendants can see what's happening outside.
– Fly non-stop without connections if you can. An overwhelming majority of plane crashes happen during the first 3 and last 8 minutes of the flight. – Wearing proper clothing will reduce your risks during air travel. Try to wear clothes made of natural fibers such as wool, cotton, leather, and denim.
– Prepare a "run kit" and make sure it's with you at all times. Such a kit should contain your passport, wallet, cell phone, credit cards and cash, any necessary medications, and a list of emergency contacts. – Don't stuff heavy objects into overhead lockers. They can fall out during severe turbulence and injure you or other passengers.
– If you see some suspicious activity or strange-looking packages, immediately inform the cabin crew.
– It might be a waste of time to look for the safest seat on the plane because it probably doesn’t exist. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

How a Wireless Charger Works, and How Cool It Can Become
When the battery runs out, it’s nerve-racking, but unfortunately, it happens. The more functions our devices provide, the more power they need, and they’re hungrier than hungry hippos at this point! That’s why charging technology is all the rage now, and the new big thing is wireless charging. Even though we’re just now seeing this technology take off, the basics of how it works were discovered not long after we started to understand what electricity is. Near the end of the 19th century, engineering mastermind Nikola Tesla showed that two powerful magnetic fields can slightly transfer energy between their sources when they interfere with each other. This trick found its use more than a hundred years later! Other videos you might like:

Animation is created by Bright Side. SUMMARY:
– Every object with enough power is a potential source of an electromagnetic field.
– Magnetism and electricity are two sides of one coin. When electricity flows, it creates an electromagnetic field.
– To make a strong electromagnetic field with copper wire, you need a lot of it. Still, it’s one of the most fitting materials. – The biggest surprise here is that the technology behind wireless charging hasn’t drastically changed since Tesla. – The main problem engineers struggled with for a long time is that coils weren’t effective. The power of the field depends on the number of coils you can fit in the device.
– Another problem is that electromagnetic fields need to be close to each other to keep a strong connection. – That’s why wireless chargers today come in the form of mats – you need to put your phone right on it to get any juice at all. – This new tech isn't huge yet because let’s face it – wires are still faster than an electromagnetic field. – Wireless charging takes around double the time to charge a smartphone from 0% to 100%. – There’s no way a short-range electromagnetic field can cause any harm to you. – As you can imagine, the whole method of electromagnetic charging won’t stay the same. As with anything, it’ll only get better in the upcoming years. – Resonance charging will be good for devices with a high level of power usage, like cars, laptops, or even some robots.
– Another idea researchers are considering is laser charging. It may be extremely powerful and focused, but it has big bugs to work out first. – A laser will work on any distance but needs a clear line of sight to the device. If interrupted, it won't work at all. – Some other fresh research is aimed at the use of infrared light-waves, radio signals, or even ultrasound waves to charge phones and other devices. Why Hotels Never Provide Toothpaste and 16 Other Insights
Staying at a hotel, you expect a certain level of service. But what you probably don’t realize is that hotels have lots of secrets and rules you’re not supposed to know. For example, why hotels don’t provide guests with toothpaste? Or have you ever wondered why they never use fitted sheets in hotels? Speaking of sheets, you must have noticed that bed linen and towels in hotels are almost always white. Why is that? And you may have seen a rather weird thing in many hotels: a phone in the bathroom, especially just next to the toilet. If you wonder who would need such an amenity, you’d probably be surprised to know why it’s an actual requirement for some hotels. So, how about looking under the hotel bed and finding out what they hide from you? Other videos you might like:

No sockets near the bed 8:45 #hotel #traveling #brightside SUMMARY:
– Hotels don’t provide guests with toothpaste for two main reasons: it’s either too expensive or, surprisingly, not expensive enough. – The sheets are changed much more often than you do it at home, and the elastic becomes worn out all too soon. – According to public polls, people perceive white color as luxurious and fresh, which makes their stay more pleasant.
– You’ll be safe if you’ve paid for a room in advance, not just booked it.
– If you see an unusually attractive price for a room on a website, be careful: it might not include a mandatory “resort fee.” I
– The time of check-in and check-out is fixed not to annoy you.
– Hotel safes use pass codes instead of regular locks, so chances are that someone in the hotel might know the master code.
– A plunger in the bathroom, according to anonymous polls, makes people think that the toilet may malfunction at some point, which doesn’t help the image.
– Carpets add to the sound-proofing, which you’ll be thankful for if you have overly active neighbors.
– A hotel might have 5 stars but still be dirty and unfriendly, while a 2-star one could provide fewer amenities but be a much more inviting place. – Many people think that hotels usually don’t have ceiling light fixtures to create an intimate and at-home atmosphere, but that’s only partly true. – Wall fixtures and lamp stands are much easier and cheaper to maintain and service, while ceiling lights take a lot more money to install and replace. – Budget hotels often provide lots of free services to their guests, while posh ones will likely charge extra for everything they can. – Lots of hotels around the world were built before mobile phones and other portable devices became so popular and widespread. Is It Allowed to Use AirPods on a Plane?
The FAA (which stands for the Federal Aviation Administration) won't mind if you switch on your wireless earbuds onboard the airliner. But when a plane takes off, all passengers are asked to put their phones into Airplane Mode. Then, how are your AirPods going to work? Well, it turns out that during the flight, it's Ok if passengers use short-range Bluetooth accessories, for example, wireless keyboards AND AirPods! However, it doesn't mean that you can (or should, for that matter) switch off the Airplane Mode after the plane has climbed to cruising altitude. Other videos you might like:

– Right before take-off, you should go to "Settings" on your smartphone and choose the Airplane Mode. Then, you re-enable Bluetooth by choosing "On" in your Bluetooth settings.
– If your AirPods are running low on battery, you can use just one earbud at a time! Keep one of them in the charging case, and listen to music or whatnot through the other.
– You can find out who's calling you without having to look at the screen of your phone! Choose "Phone" in your Settings, and tap "Announce Calls." – Unfortunately, AirPods aren't water-resistant. So don’t shower with them.
– The "disconnection problem" may occur because of the dust and dirt stuck inside.
– You can set up "Find My AirPods" in the "Find My iPhone" application so that you never have to rummage around your place trying to locate them. – You can still use your AirPods even if your phone wasn't produced by Apple! Examine the back of the charging case – see that small, flush button? You can use it to pair your earbuds to an Android device without any problems! – If you have second-generation AirPods, you can chat with them. Well, not with them, obviously, but with Siri. – You can change the name of your AirPods! Just choose "Bluetooth" in your phone's Settings, find the blue letter "i" with a circle around it near "AirPods," and tap it. You'll see the box saying "name" – that's where you can type any name that fits your earbuds the best. – If your AirPods are inside the case, and the lid is open, the green light means that your AirPods are fully charged, and amber indicates that less than one full charge remains. What If You Had to Live a Day in the Stone Age
Imagine you just wake up one day and there's no electricity, no internet, no money, and no work or school. Nothing you're used to! You're not even in your own home, because you’ve magically transported to the Stone Age. What could possibly happen next? Of course, your first reaction would be shock, but we'll move past that. First, let's look around. This is your cave where you live with your family. You have your own sleeping area that’s covered with animal skin. However, you might also live in a primitive hut supported by mammoth tusks and ribs, with an animal skin over it as protection from the rain. And if you're wondering where the Stone Age people did their business, don't be surprised to find out it was basically anywhere outdoors. Other videos you might like:

Fishing in the Stone Age 8:01 #stoneage #cavepeople #brightside SUMMARY:
– Back in the day, humans used the skins of the animals they hunted to create simple, rough loincloths. To make the skin more flexible, they had to chew it.
– What about footwear? Scientists believe it appeared about 40,000 years ago.
– Ancient humans chose caves or built huts in the safest places they could find. – See, you’re not that much different from the modern you. Just your hair is a mess and you might be a few inches smaller with a more developed jaw because of the harsh diet.
– Now it’s time for breakfast! Luckily, you have some leftovers from dinner – eggs, wild fruits, and berries. -Thankfully, the Ice Age is long gone, so the weather is warm, and lush greenery is in abundance. That’s good for you since you have to pick different edible plants, nuts, fruits, and wild grains.
– The Stone Age folks usually united in groups of 20-50 and helped each other survive. – To separate the grains from the husks, take a stone bowl and a small grinding stone and grind the grains. Now, if you mix smashed grains with water, you’ll get gruel.
– The Stone Age people survived because they did almost everything together, so call up your camp neighbors and get ready. – How did humans communicate back then? At the very beginning of the Stone Age, they only used different cries and gestures to express their fear, joy, pain or to alert the others about some danger.
– The first and most primitive things used for taking animals down were long sharpened wooden sticks, and just a big rock. – There were two main hunting techniques back then. The first was rather time-consuming, but safer. It included digging a huge hole around the place where animals went to drink water.
– Another technique was all about group chasing the animal and forcing it into the mud and water channels where they had no way to get out. – Fishing nets were made of tree bark and grass. The oldest one found by archeologists dates back to 8300 BCE. – The Stone Age life was anything but easy. But still, humans had some kind of entertainment. No, you’re not going to an amusement park or a cinema. But you can pass the time playing music on the flutes made from bird bones and mammoth ivory. – Another theory says a super popular singer in Japan from The Spiders band, Jun Inoue, started it all. He was in a Konica camera commercial in 1972 and threw the V in there. – The magazine girls made V-signs, real life girls copied them. It has to do with how it changes your face.
– Theory number three is that it began with American figure skater Janet Lynn. – Everyone was positive she’d win, but oh the fates, she fell doing a spin two minutes into her performance. It was obvious she wouldn’t win the gold. – As she toured the country and signed magazines for her fans with “Peace and love”, she showed the V-sign quite a lot. – Anyway, it’s not just an easy solution for your hands, but also a way to make yourself look more kawaii, or cute. – Purikura are photo machines that are crazy popular in Japan. You can find them anywhere from shopping malls to landmarks and aquariums.
– You can experiment with effects, colors, and textures. At game centers, you can rent real costumes, wigs, bunny or cat ears. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

Myths about tornadoes 8:06 #survivaltips #tornado #brightside SUMMARY:
– Most of the time they appear in the summer when the ground is heated and the upper parts of the atmosphere are influenced by cold winds brought on by thunderstorm supercells.
– The force of their collision creates a spinning wall cloud right below the level of the parenting storm. – With time, both the updraft and the downdraft become stronger and stronger. It eventually produces a vertical column of spinning air that starts to suck debris from the ground like a giant drain. – A tornado can be up to 2 miles in diameter. The wind speed sometimes surpasses 300 mph, and the speed of the funnel itself traversing the land is somewhere between 25 to 40 mph.
– The main way to assure your safety is to be aware of your surroundings, and plan in case a tornado comes your way. – There’s a term: ‘Tornado Alley’, which includes most of the Southeastern and Midwestern parts of the USA.
– Specially trained people can detect the very first signs of a storm that can produce a tornado. There are more than 230,000 of these vigilant storm-watchers across the US.
– When observers confirm the first signs of upcoming tornadoes, the emergency warning will immediately go off.
– An F-0 tornado is more like a landspout – it won’t cause any significant damage.
– An F-1 tornado, with wind speeds up to 110 mph, is more of a concern.
– An F-2 tornado can tear small trees out from the ground. Any mobile home would be destroyed by it.
– An F-3 tornado is where the real trouble begins. The wind speed can get up to 205 mph.
– F-4 and F-5 tornadoes are the rarest, but also the most dangerous. If you ever hear that something like that is coming your way – it’s best to find a bunker, safe room, or an underground shelter nearby.
– The best way to avoid a tornado in a car is to figure out the direction it’s going and take a course about 90 degrees from this direction. – Shopping malls or cinemas could be extremely dangerous if you want to hide from tornadoes. The myth that larger structures are safer is just a myth. – One suggests that it’s better to open windows during a tornado, and that’s as false as it gets. – Another important misconception is that smaller tornados are weaker and less dangerous. That’s also not true. – No matter how small or slow-looking a twister is – try to not underestimate it, and always use every method of avoiding trouble.
