July, 1957. An ordinary day in the state of Kerala, India. People walk down the streets doing their business and it begins to rain. Suddenly, people start to shout and run away in fear. Everything turns into a kind of horror movie. Because the rain drops that fall from the sky are bright red. And this is not a horror movie. It's all happening for real. Imagine the familiar view outside your window. What if you saw it gradually turn red? The clothes of people caught in the rain would change to pink. So what caused the red rain? There's a logical explanation for it. And for white rain, too. As well as for black rain. Wait, really? What other rain colors are there? Well, a green rain fell near Calcutta in the summer of 2002, and one day a brown rain fell in southern Russia. Let's find out more about these amazing natural phenomena. #brightside TIMESTAMPS:

80+ Body Facts I Heard For The First Time
Would you agree that human bodies are perfect works of art? Really, few things are as complex and interesting as our own bodies! Thousands of years of evolution have served to make us one of the marvels of nature. And yet, we know so little about ourselves: what makes us who we are?
For example, did you know that every month our skin regenerates completely? Which means that throughout life each of us sheds about 1,000 skins! Or that our brains are 80% water. That's why it's so important to stay hydrated and drink water.

If Earth and Saturn Crossed Paths, Which Planet Would Win?
This planet's called "The Jewel of the Solar System." Made up mostly of gases, it could float on water – should you find a reservoir 75,000 miles across and just as deep. But what makes the planet so recognizable is its beautiful rings – gray, tan, and beige. They consist of dust, rocks, and ice. Some bits are as tiny as grains of sand, others – as large as skyscrapers. It's Saturn, and right now, Earth is hurtling toward it at breakneck speed. So what would happen if Saturn hit Earth? What happens when planets collide? Okay, let's imagine that all of a sudden, Earth changed the course it had been following for several billion years. But instead of rushing toward the Sun, it started to move away from the star. On second thoughts, it might be for the better – we've got more time to find a solution. Earth used to move around the Sun at a speed of 67,000 miles per hour. For some mysterious reason, when it left its orbit, the speed remained the same. It means we're going to cover 746 million miles separating our planet from Saturn within a year and three months… Here's another what-if video for space lovers! #brightside Credit:

If You See This Green Foam on the Beach, Don’t Come Close
You can come to a sea or lake beach and spot something that looks like blue-green foam floating on or just beneath the surface of the water. Or it may resemble streaks of bright green paint. Some blooms, called red tides, can color the water brown or red. And your nose gets filled with a recognizable pungent stench of rotting eggs. Should you probably come closer to check this unusual phenomenon?… Stop right now until it’s too late. What you see is called a harmful algal bloom, also called algae bloom, and approaching it is a very bad idea. This bloom contains algae that can produce dangerous toxic gases. That's what makes previously popular touristy places deserted and outright treacherous! So keep in check that curiosity of yours, and don't go exploring! Let’s find out more about the most dangerous sea cretures. #brightside TIMESTAMPS:

If You See One of These, Move Back Right Away
Do you often go to the woods? It's a beautiful place with healing properties for our souls and bodies. However, it's important to be aware of some dangerous plants and creatures living there. Do you often see something suspicious and decide to try it or come closer, despite your intuition saying "run away ASAP!"? Most of the time our intuition won't betray us. For example, one fungus looks like it's covered with drops of blood all over it's cap but in reality it's not toxic. While another one is called "Zombie Fungus" and not without reason: it may take over ants' bodies to control their actions and hijack their minds. Moreover, there're other plants that look pretty innocent, but may cause danger to people. For instance, if you get the sap of the sandbox tree in your eyes, blindness can become a frighteningly real possibility. 12 Strongest Creatures You’ve Never Seen
We all watched movies where characters wear the "coolest armor ever made" but there are animals that make their own and inspire scientists to create real-life super suits. Scales, exoskeletons, shells, and armor – let's find out who has the best defense in the animal kingdom. For example, have you ever heard of the ironclad beetle? It has a very apt name: its carapace is so hard it can withstand the weight of a grown-up person! Or did you know that the Nile crocodile's scales are actually an exoskeleton that serves for protection? An immense reptile has only slightly changed since its appearance millions of years ago. And if you love dinosaurs, you probably know, that the armor of an ankylosaurus is much thicker than anything found in modern animals and could take quite an impact before giving in. So what are the strongest natural materials on Earth? Let's figure out! #brightside TIMESTAMPS:

What Happens to Your Body When a Snake Bites You
What happens when a snake bites you? Well, if it isn’t venomous, consider yourself lucky: you’re probably gonna be fine. Still, any snake’s fangs carry thousands of bacteria on them, and the most terrifying of them cause tetanus. Worse still, you might be that unfortunate person to have an allergy to snake saliva. So even if you’ve been bitten by a non-venomous snake, call for help pronto. But there’s a worse scenario: the snake was indeed venomous. Every snake species has its own kind of venom that acts differently from others. It can affect either heart and nerves, muscles, or blood vessels. It always starts with a sharp pain at the place of bite. The snake opened its mouth wide, punctured your flesh with its two upper fangs, and injected its venom through the channels inside them. The venom goes straight into your bloodstream, and that’s when the real black magic begins… #brightside TIMESTAMPS:

37 Natural Phenomena More Spectacular Than Movie Special Effects
Some people are afraid of lightnings and thunderstorms… but they probably don't know that there exist natural phenomena much scarier and more terrifying! Something so powerful and devastating that it's even hard to imagine anything like this to happen. For example, sometimes the Earth can open up and form a giant hole swallowing everything on top. Usually it's caused by the sudden collapse of underground water systems or caverns. They might occur even in inhabited areas: in the middle of the road or right by a house. Wow! You never know, what's awaiting you right around the corner! Preview photo credit:
