The Most Remote Place on Earth: No Life, No Wind

There's a terrifying yet incredibly beautiful place, where water and sky mix into one picture. Where you’ll find virtually no living creatures for thousands of miles. Anyone who manages to get there will feel like the loneliest person. Destination: Point Nemo, the most remote place on Earth. So, to get to the most isolated spot on Earth, you'll need to arrive on the coast of Chile and rent an old fishing boat. From here, you’ll have to sail through the South Pacific Ocean toward New Zealand. 2,500 miles to your destination…and just as many on the way back. Point Nemo is a junkyard for space debris since there’s no one here to disturb. #brightside Other videos you might like:

You Touch Your Phone 2600 Times A Day And Don’t Even Notice

Fewer people worldwide have a toothbrush than a cellphone. There’s a special word to describe the fear of losing your smartphone: nomophobia. An average person is online for 24 hours a week — that’s 1/7th of their life. By 2027, there will be over 40 billion smart devices on the planet. That’s 5 times the number of people. In 2009, almost no one used mobile phones to browse the Internet, and everyone sat at their desktop computers. 10 years later, more than half of the Internet users are going mobile. Yup, gadgets have dominated our lives in more ways than you imagine. Today, we’re gonna put it all in perspective. And yes, there will be a lot of numbers. #brightside Other videos you might like:

The World’s Only Town in the Open Sea

Have you considered making a house out of some sunken ships? Because someone else did! It may sound crazy, but there’s a whole town built on these things. The ships were deliberately flooded and then connected together with metal bridges, creating a foundation for a real settlement in the sea. It’s probably one of the strangest places on Earth, and there are plenty more of them out there. So, there’s a mysterious place out in the middle of the Caspian Sea, about 60 miles from the city of Baku, Azerbaijan. Local fishermen gave it the spooky name of Black Rocks, thanks to the dark substance found on the stones there. In the 1940s a geological group went to take a look at the area, and they soon learned that the black stuff was oil. There was tons and tons of it under the seabed, which naturally attracted a lot of attention… #brightside Other videos you might like:

A Journey Inside Your Mouth

What are taste buds? And how does our sense of taste work? Well, first of all, your mouth isn’t alone on this project – it also needs the nose (specifically, your sense of smell) to taste all the food you eat. Together, the combo consists of 80% smell and only 20% of taste itself! Meaning, the journey doesn’t start in the mouth. It all starts when you just walk into a room with food. Every time you breathe in, you inhale everything in the air. And in our case, it includes small particles of pizza floating in the air. Yes, there are millions of microscopic pizzas flying around! But why does hot food smell more? And why does airplane food tastes weird? How do smells information influence emotions and memories? Let's find out! #brightside Other videos you might like:

The Easiest Ways to Board Your Plane Faster

How to board planes faster? You may strongly disagree with an air company on what to call food or how hot it should be in the cabin. But there's one thing that both you and the airline probably agree on: boarding the plane takes WAY too long. Going through airport security can be really time-consuming, annoying, and even confusing for inexperienced travelers. That is, unless they know some simple strategies. Do you know, for example, why you shouldn't book your flight on Fridays from 4 to 8 p.m.? Or which things are better to place in a side pocket or at the top of your bag? Why Escalator Handrails Move Faster Than Steps

When traveling between work and home on the subway, some of us often find ourselves wondering why it is that the handrail on the escalators moves faster than the steps themselves do. Well, this is not some kind of conspiracy but is in fact completely normal. So how does an escalator work? And why are those steps so steep anyway? Our story begins in the 1890s – the early days of Coca Cola, Hershey’s Chocolate, and motion pictures! A strange contraption is being built at New York's Coney Island Park. The thing travels along a 25° incline and only goes up 7 ft. Yet spectators back then were amazed by the futuristic Moving Stairs! It was the world's first escalator, and it was just a temporary amusement park attraction! But let's see how the modern escalator works! #brightside CC BY 2.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0:
