We think of deserts as the hottest places on Earth, but they can actually be cold for a few reasons. First, high-altitude deserts, like the Gobi Desert in Mongolia, can experience cold temperatures due to their elevation. Second, some deserts, such as Antarctica, are cold because they're polar deserts and receive little sunlight.
