Two Planes Crashed In Africa With The Same Man Onboard

Few people can boast having survived a plane crash. What about surviving 2 plane crashes, one after the other? You think it’s impossible? Well, this guy did. And you know the name of the lucky man who survived 2 plane crashes in succession. It’s Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway’s biography is far richer than that of the characters from his books. He was a skilled boxer, a passionate hunter and fisherman, and a journalist. He had more energy than a dozen men put together. No wonder he’d been crazy about Africa for many years. The scale, the atmosphere, the danger – it all suited him perfectly in the vast territories of that wild continent… Other videos you might like:

How Hemingway fell right into flames 6:48 # Hemingway #truestories #brightside Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY:
– In 1933 Hemingway went to Lake Tanganyika, where he made a camp, hired servants and guides from the local tribe, and started going hunting.
– In January 1934, Hemingway came back from yet another safari and got sick with intestinal amoebic dysentery.
– For most travelers that would’ve been enough to fall out of love with Africa forever. But not Hemingway.
– He wrote later that he never knew of a morning in Africa that he didn’t wake up happy. It’s no wonder that his passion for adventures drew him back there again.
– On January 21, 1954, Hemingway made a Christmas present for his dear wife Mary Welsh. Together with pilot Roy Marsh, they set out from Nairobi to visit the Belgian Congo in a small plane.
– The plane’s propeller and tail got hooked on an old telegraph wire. The pilot had to crash-land in the heavy bush close to the White Nile bustling with crocodiles.
– The next day, Hemingway and Roy Marsh were able to flag down a passing riverboat, “Murchison”, which took them to Butiaba on the western shore of Lake Albert.
– By the time they got to Butiaba, thanks to an international telegraph, rumor had it that one of the greatest living writers was in a plane crash in the middle of Africa.
– Hemingway wasn't happy about flying again. He thought it was better to go by car, but Cartwright convinced him that it was totally secure.
– All of a sudden, they found themselves in the air, but only for a few seconds. After that, the plane fell to the ground again with the sound of tearing metal – something they’d gotten used to hearing in the last couple of days.
– In the New Stanley Hotel, he had a rare chance to read his own obituary in the newspapers, sent to him from around the world.
– After his short recovery, he went to the beach camp on the Kenyan coast where he’d been scheduled to do some fishing with his son Patrick.
– But when a big brushfire started near the camp, he couldn’t stay put and went to help the firefighters.
– Since he was still weak and dizzy, he lost his balance and fell right into the flames. He got light burns on his face, chest, stomach, and legs, and very bad ones on his left hand and right arm.
– In 1999, on Hemingway’s 100th birthday, a popular British actor, Michael Palin, tried to repeat the routes of the writer’s journeys, after which he published a book: “Hemingway Adventure”. Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz —————————————————————————————-

– Temple of KuKULkan, was built sometime between the 9th and 12th centuries CE. During the autumn equinox and the vernal equinox, one can see a snake-like shadow crawling on the pyramid's balustrade. It moves upwards in March and downwards in September.
– The Balancanché caves aren't included on the classic tourist route. The name translates to "the cave of the sacred jaguar throne." These mesmerizing caves were first discovered by two American archaeologists in 1905 and have since then stirred curiosity.
– Cenote Ik Kil is located in the Yucatán State of Mexico. This place is otherworldly. While the Mayans used this site as a place for performing rituals, today tourists can be seen swimming.
– Nohoch Mul Pyramid is the place you should visit. If you aren’t afraid of heights and can muster the energy to climb its 130 steep steps to the top, you’ll be able to get a remarkable view of the Yucatán.
– Ancient city Tulum is the only Mayan city on the shore of the Caribbean Sea, located 39 feet (12 m) up on the cliffs of the Yucatan peninsula.
– The tallest and the most recognizable structure in Uxmal is also known by other names, like the Pyramid of the Dwarf, Casa el Adivino, and the Pyramid of the Soothsayer.
– Temple of the Inscriptions was built as a tomb for King Pakal, the ruler of Palenque in the 7th century. The inner walls of the temple are inscribed with about 600 hieroglyphs, some of which are yet to be deciphered.
– Located not far from Palenque, the ancient city, Yaxchilan, was one of the most powerful states in the Mayan empire. The city is known for its well-preserved stone ornamentation above the doorways of the main structures known as lintels.
– According to Professor Mary Miller, who specializes in Mayan art, no other artifacts from the Mayan times offer a better glimpse of the society than the Bonampak paintings.
– The Temple of the Great Jaguar was built as a funerary temple, and in the year 1962, archaeologists were finally able to locate the tomb of the ruler who built it. The body of the king was covered with large quantities of jade ornaments. Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz —————————————————————————————-

They Tried to Erase This Female Pharaoh from History But Could Not

When you hear “Egyptian Pharaoh”, what image immediately comes to your mind? Probably a man wearing a blue and golden headdress, sitting on a throne surrounded by servants? Picturing a man would be accurate 95% of the time since very few females became pharaohs in all of Ancient Egypt’s 3,000-year history. To be precise, there were 7 female pharaohs among the 170 that ruled Egypt over time. One of those women was Hatshepsut, and how she came to power as a great Leader of Egypt is a rare story! Actually, male rulers following women often destroyed any mention of them to erase them from history. So, why did the Egyptians believe pharaohs should be male only? Why was even the mere idea of a female pharaoh considered totally unnatural? Let's figure out! Other videos you might like:

– In 1507 BCE, a girl was born, and she would be named "Foremost of Noble Women". You might know her as Hatshepsut. She was the daughter of Pharaoh Thutmose I and Queen Ahmose, his first and main wife. – Hatshepsut’s half-brother Thutmose II officially became the new ruler of Egypt, and the two got married. – The bright and tactful Hatshepsut, who probably felt that she was born to rule being the daughter and wife of two kings by now, was determined to get what was rightfully hers.
– But there was the problem of her primary competition. That was Thutmose III, the son of the deceased pharaoh and another wife of his. – Hatshepsut took advantage of the situation and appointed herself his regent.
– She had a legend on her side. According to the myth, Hatshepsut was actually the daughter of Amun, that Egyptian deity I mentioned earlier. – Hatshepsut might’ve been strong and powerful, but she clearly wasn’t a guy – legend has it that she was actually a very beautiful woman. – At important public events, she wore men's clothes and a fake beard. – The ruler focused more on developing her own country instead of expanding it by conquering new lands. – The most impressive construction of Hatshepsut’s rule was the temple at Deir el-Bahari. This temple is considered one of the architectural wonders of Ancient Egypt, and it’s also where she was buried. – Her prosperous reign lasted a little more than 2 decades until her death some 22 years after taking the throne. – The name of the Queen was excluded from the list of pharaohs of Egypt, and her portraits were destroyed. – But Hatshepsut was smart and she most likely expected something like this would happen. So, during her years on the throne, she managed to sprinkle reliefs and artwork of herself in lots of different places so that it’d be impossible to erase everything. 50 Surprising Facts About Australia That Break All the Stereotypes

Okay, it’s Pop quiz time! Which country has the longest fence in the world? How about the 2nd largest Greek population? Three times more sheep than people? One word will give it away: kangaroos. Yes, it's the Land Down Under. So, what do you know about Australia? Australia is the world's 6th largest country and the only one that’s also a whole continent. But with all that territory, over 80% of Australians live within 60 miles of the coast. Before humans arrived, the continent was home to mega-fauna. If you’d lived there about 46,000 years ago, you’d be dead today. But you would’ve seen 10-foot-tall kangaroos, 23-foot-long goanna lizards, and ducks the size of an adult horse. Everyone Who Had the Mysterious Orlov Black Diamond Regretted It

Marylin Monroe apparently knew what she was singing about. Diamonds are a girl’s best friend. Well, not all diamonds are friends. That’s where the Orlov diamond comes in – notorious for ruining his owners’ lives and… Yes, it is black! And, its past and origin are as dark as its color. Legend has it that the Orlov diamond is “The Eye of Brahma” – a 195-carat gemstone that was inlaid in a Hindu statue near Pondicherry, India. In 1747, it was stolen under mysterious circumstances. Several hours before its disappearance, a monk was seen in the shrine who was later believed to be a thief. Other videos you might like:

– Neither the monk nor other possible thieves were ever found, and any trace of the diamond was lost for many years. Much later, in the 18th century, it popped up in Great Britain. – Princess Orlova’s story is a bit of a mystery. For a long time she was believed to be a fictional character. Historians couldn’t find any references to her biography.
– There are records of two more Russian princesses who owned the black diamond and shared the same terrible fate: Leonila Galitsine-Bariatinsky and Maria Leshchinskaya.
– In 1932 the Black Orlov was bought from an unknown source by J.W Paris – a well-known New York gem dealer. – The next owner, Charles S. Winston, was shaken by Paris’s tragic demise and tried to break the diamond’s alleged curse by cutting it. He asked an Austrian jeweler to cut the diamond into 3 pieces.
– The present owner of the infamous stone, a diamond dealer from Pennsylvania named Dennis Petimezas, bought it in 2006. – Petimezas had never seriously believed in the diamond's dark powers. He studied its history and found that there weren’t any troubles linked to it for about half a century.
– The Black Orlov is now part of a 108-diamond brooch suspended from a 124-diamond necklace and is sometimes on display at international gemstone exhibitions.
– It takes that long for diamonds to form at a depth of about a hundred miles (160 km). Imagine very high temperatures (1,652 – 2,370°F (900 – 1,300°ะก)) and extremely high pressure existing for millions of years deep inside the Earth’s mantle. – While pure diamonds are big solid crystals, carbonados have a polycrystal structure. They’re made of many tiny crystals linked with each other. – Black diamonds come from only 3 places and no other pure or colored diamonds are found there: The Central African Republic, Brazil and The Kozelski Volcano in Kamchatka, Russia.
– Carbonados have graphite and hematite in their crystals. These substances absorb light, while pure diamonds let it through. It's believed that the black hue also appeared due to radiation. – The quality of the gemstone depends on the initial substance and the jeweler’s skills. The cheapest carbonados are produced in India. Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz —————————————————————————————-

Scientists Discovered Unknown Material on the Moon but Can’t Explain It

Since ancient times, astronomers have been fascinated with the Moon. Today, modern technology allows scientists to explore the lunar surface from afar. And some of their findings are outright baffling. Like, what is that huge and mysterious metal mass that’s just been discovered in one of the Moon's craters? Imagine a gigantic chunk of metal almost the size of West Virginia. As for its weight in pounds, this number has a string of 17 zeros behind it. So far, scientists have been struggling to explain where this huge lump of unidentified material came from or what it really is. But let's start from the beginning… Other videos you might like:

– On the far side of the Moon, you’ll find one of the largest and oldest impact craters in our Solar System: the South Pole-Aitken basin. – Astronomers are sure that this crater appeared when an asteroid collided with the Moon around 4 billion years ago. – In one place on the Moon's surface astronomers saw a weird change in gravity. – So far, researchers haven't yet figured out the origin of the bizarre lump, but there are several theories.
– Most scientists support the theory that the puzzling mass is a part of the monstrosity that once created the very South Pole-Aitken basin itself! – In any case, the Moon is good at keeping its secrets, and researchers still haven't come to any final conclusion.
– One phenomenon has been perplexing astronomers for decades (since the 1950s, to be precise), and that's random flashes of light coming from the surface of the Moon. – Sometimes astronomers observe them several times a week, and at other times, the flashes might disappear for months. – It turns out that lunar dust is dangerous for people. Its particles are incredibly sharp, and when breathed in, they can damage the brain and lungs beyond repair! – There might be a labyrinth of lava tunnels on the Moon. Astronomers have discovered a massive cave under the lunar surface thanks to some topography data they recently got back. – The Moon is abandoning us! Every year, its orbit moves about an inch and a half away from our planet. – Despite all appearances, the Moon isn't a perfect sphere. It might look like that when you glance at it hanging up there in the night sky. But, in fact, the Moon is shaped like an egg!
– And finally, how about this: some scientists don't even agree that the Moon is Earth's satellite! – Being around one-fourth the size of our planet, the crater-pocked thing is just too big to be our moon. Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz —————————————————————————————-
